Do you know of Dr. Pedro Albizo Campos, Antonia Pantoja, Pedro Pietri,
US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Roberto Clemente, Raul Julia, Julia De Burgos, or Luis Pales Matos?

Our Puerto Rican heroes are never mentioned in our history books or in mainstream media.

This is why the Brooklyn Puerto Rican Youth Initiative (BPRYI) was created. Participants ages 12 to 21 can become apart of this six to eight week program that consists of Puerto Rican political and cultural education.

BPRYI builds:

  • Self/social awareness

  • Confidence

  • Leadership skills

  • Professional development

  • Critical and analytical skills

  • And an overall appreciation of our

    heritage and culture.

Participants will also have the opportunity to join us on field trips to distinguished Puerto Rican institutions/centers that will help us see the lasting impact Puerto Rican activism has had in our modern day world. (i.e art, drama, poetry, music etc.)

At the end of the program young people interested in continuing the movement may become youth leaders/peer educators and work as a collective on a campaign strategy to combat the disparities that many Puerto Rican Youth face in education and employment.

The BPRYI will help young people discover that we have a lot to be proud of. We have a rich history of activists, artists, politicians, philosophers that have helped shape the way for our community, as well as others. Please join us this fall to learn more about how you can get involved and become an agent of change.
